Yeading 2 – 1 Wealdstone
SF
2 - 1
WEALDSTONE succumbed to Yeading for the fourth time this season on Tuesday night, surrendering their hold on the cup they won last year.
As an emergency measure, Hippolyte, the Yeading manager, played in goal for his side and, although Wealdstone played with three forwards, very few chances were created to test the aging, out-of-position striker.
Richard Jolly fired into the side netting in the second minute when a test of the keeper was imperative. When Jolly got clear 20 minutes later, Hippolyte elected to hoof the shot away with his feet rather than save it in the orthodox fashion.
In between these two incidents, Yeading took a 12th minute lead through Woodruffe.
In an all too familiar scenario, Stones’ defenders got drawn out of position and Andy Carter had to come off his line to assist. When a square pass came to the fast advancing Woodruffe he simply slotted into an open goal.
Yeading were surprisingly quiet and as the half continued Wealdstone started to dominate possession but could not create a worthwhile chance.
After the turnaround. Jason Shaw had already gone close before Jolly was brought down in the box by Bezhadi. After some delaying antics by Hippolyte, Jolly coolly rolled it into the corner.
For a short time, Wealdstone looked likely winners. It took a wonderful piece of skill from Yeading’s Morgan to break the deadlock in the 83rd minute.
He twice dummied the entire Wealdstone defence, including Carter, before rolling it into an unguarded net.
