Wealdstone 0 – 1 Uxbridge
0 - 1
Friday night’s game was a tight affair of few chances as defences ruled, writes Steve Paull.
After a quiet 15 minutes Uxbridge’s Lee Tunnell was brought down as he bore down on goal. It was difficult to be sure whether it was Matt Carvell’s push in the back or Andy Carter’s wild swing of the leg that did it. Carvell was punished with a booking.
There were many watching who thought the referee had got the wrong offender.
In comparison to their away form Wealdstone were playing poorly and getting outfought, especially in midfield, by another well organised, defensive, fairly physical side, All three sides to visit the White Lion this season have been like this, and none of them have left empty handed.
Stones best chance of the half came when Uxbridge keeper Pelton spilled a low cross and Martin Carter’s shot was charged down on the line. Apart from that Carvell also had a shot blocked and Robin Tucker made a hash of a header.
The most clear cut chance of this game fell to the visitors’ captain Bamford early in the second half, but after bursting into the box to leave the defence flat footed, he then fired straight at Carter.
When a draw looked an almost certainty, Uxbridge scored their goal. A foul throw was awarded to Stones who promptly lost the ball. The early cross that followed was gleefully thumped past Carter by Tunnell.
In the push for an equaliser Carvell had a further shot blocked, as did Danny Juliene, plus Tucker had a header luckily kept out by Pelton’s knees as he went down to save.
But no equaliser came and Wealdstone again exited the FA Cup again in a somewhat frustrating, inglorious, way.
