Chesham Utd 1 – 0 Wealdstone
1 - 0
Wealdstone suffer their first defeat of pre season to Chesham United at The Meadow.
Samson Esan opened the scoring for the hosts early into the second-half, capitalising on a goalkeeping mistake and finishing calmly.
The Stones had to big chances to equalise through Dom Hutchinson, but some inch perfect defending denied the Stones a leveller.
Matt Taylor made four changes to the side that faced Walton & Hersham in the Stones first friendly last Saturday. Adrian Mariappa captained the side during his first start for the club. Max Kretzschmar, Sean Adarkwa and Mason Barrett made up the other four changes.
The first-half saw neither team create many clear-cut chances, but saw the Stones largely dominate possession, and slowly begin to push the Chesham United side further and further back into their own box.
As the half went on, Enzio Boldewijn looked more and more of a threat down the left-hand side. In the 21st minute, some silky footwork from the Dutchman won the Stones a corner, which would create their best chance of the half when Barrett headed narrowly wide.
Knowing their best chance of a goal would come on the break, Chesham came close to breaking the deadlock in the 35th minute when a quick break saw create a clear cut chance with freedom of the penalty area, which was blazed over by their midfielder.
With the first half coming to a close, some intricate play in the box from Kretzschmar and Boldewijn. saw the ball played into the path of Ashford, who’s fierce effort flew over the crossbar.
With ten minutes played in the second period, the home side took advantage of complacency at the back when Samson Esan robbed Archie Matthews of the ball and finished to put Chesham ahead.
Trying to hit back quickly, the Stones looked destined to equalise when Hutchinson was played through on goal, but a last ditch block denied him what looked a certain goal.
Looking lively after coming in, Hutchinson was involved once again when he dribbled through the Chesham defence, only to see his poked shot saved by the keeper and cleared away by a defender before crossing the line.
A couple of last ditch chances for the Stones through Obiero and Cook-Appiah almost had the Stones level, but it was not to be on the day.
Next up for the Stones, their first home friendly of the season when former manager Stuart Maynard comes back to the Vale with Notts County on Tuesday at 19:30.
