Chelmsford City 0 – 1 Wealdstone
0 - 1
Wealdstone continue their run in the FA Trophy after a tough 1-0 win away at Chelmsford City’s Melbourne Stadium in the 4th Round on Saturday afternoon.
There were four changes to the line-up from the last game, with Sean Adarkwa, Micah Obiero, Jack Cook and Max Kretzschmar being replaced by Mason Barrett, Nathan Ferguson, Tahvon Campbell and Brandon Mason. Charlie Barker took the armband.
Wealdstone met Chelmsford in the same competition last season, with a dominant performance ending in a 2-1 exit from the competition but a solitary goal from Campbell proved decisive today, in what was a less dominant performance than last year’s tie.
The first half initially started off with two huge chances for both sides on the five minute mark. The Stones chance came first with a Bowen shot hitting the side netting, before the Clarets had a free header which went just over the bar.
Another chance came for Wealdstone when Campbell managed to spin his man but a deflection guided it for the Clarets keeper to collect.
The second half started in the Stones favour, with a Campbell half volley giving us the lead on 52 minutes. The striker almost doubled his tally moments later, but his shot was saved by Ipswich Town loanee Henry Gray in the hosts goal.
The game continued with pressure from the home side, however they weren’t able to find the back of the net despite two more close chances, one being from Josh Castiglione who’s shot was deflected and skimmed the crossbar.
The Stones defended the pressure and earned themselves a place in the hat for the 5th Round, with the draw taking place live on talkSPORT 2 on Monday afternoon.
Next round’s tie is due to take place on Saturday 10th February, meaning the National League fixture away to Altrincham will be rescheduled.
The Stones are next in action again in Essex, as we travel to Southend United on Tuesday 16th January with a 7:45pm kick off.
