Poor Stones…..
A GAME that at best can only be described as disappointing as a fairly strong Stones side took on Southern Division Ashford Town and were comprehensively beaten.
Stones started brightly but soon allowed some rather one-sided decisions from the referee affect them and their concentration, which in turn allowed Ashford to take command of the game, eventually opening the scoring with a looping header over goalkeeper Richard Brown.
As frustrations grew, particularly with Marvin Morgan, he was eventually booked for what seemed to be answering back after another harsh free-kick award, although he was booked again 42 minutes after committing a foul — this saw him dismissed from the field.
Changes at half time failed to see a change in Stones abilities orr attitude, and Ashford, still receiving the benefit of some strange decisions made the most of the ball and the extra man as they proceed to rip through a dispirited Wealdstone side, who failed to rise to the challenge.
Ashford’s second came from a long shot, spilled by the keeper and Ashford Centre forward reacted first from close range, as he did again for the sixth home goal later on.
The third was a sweet move as Ashford made space around the penalty area, and the fourth saw a break from halfway before the home forward turned and shot in from 18 yards. The fifth saw a corner cleared only to the edge of the box and immediately returned to the far corner of the net.
Stones did get one goal back when trialist Daly Palmer beat his man and scored from about ten yards, but all in all it was a poor performance.
