Wealdstone 0 – 1 Aldershot Town
0 - 1
Wealdstone slumped to their third straight defeat after Tahvon Campbell’s second half goal sealed a 1-0 win for Aldershot Town at Grosvenor Vale.
The Stones went closest through Olufela Olomola at the end of the first half, but his effort was cleared off the line by Tyler Cordner.
Stuart Maynard reverted back to three centre-halves with Mason Barrett stepping out for Micah Obiero and a youthful duo of loanees Sonny Lo-Everton and Lewis Simper in midfield, accompanied by the returning Ashley Charles.
Despite enjoying a large share of the possession it took until midway into the first half for the Stones to trouble Luca Ashby-Hammond in the Shots goal, when Jack Cook made a surging run out of defence to the Shots area, only to see his effort held by the Fulham loanee.
Over the course of the match, it was the visitors who enjoyed the better of the chances with Corey Jordan producing a fine save from Sam Howes after heading at goal from five yards out.
Olomola and Corie Andrews both had big chances to open the scoring just before half time, with Olomola seeing an effort cleared off the line by Cordner and then Andrews denied by a last-ditch Haji Mnoga tackle when through on goal.
The Shots responded well after the break with goal scorer Campbell blazing a huge chance off the crossbar with the goal gaping.
However, the striker had his goal midway into the second half. Ryan Glover saw his initial effort saved by Howes, only for it to fall to Campbell. Cook did well to block the striker’s initial effort but he made no mistake with the rebound.
With results at the back end of the table now favouring the visitors in their quest to stay up, the Stones enjoyed a lot of territory in the Shots half but chances from Lo-Everton, Cook and sub Nathan Ferguson were all denied by some heroic blocks from the Aldershot defenders.
That kept Wealdstone stuck in a miserable run of form, but Maynard’s men will go into Saturday’s game resurgent against Dorking Wanderers as the club host their end of season awards after the game. Kick off is at 3PM, with the award ceremony in The Vale Social Club post-match.
