WealdstoneIt was Boxing Day delight for Wealdstone who picked up a third straight away win in a 2-0 victory against Maidenhead United at York Road.
Sean Adarkwa continued his fine form with a fantastic curling opener on the edge of the area before Max Kretzschmar’s penalty gave the Stones a 2-0 first half lead, before some resolute second half defending secured the three points and a clean sheet.
Wealdstone came into this game off the back of a eight goal thriller at The Vale, resulting in a draw against Hartlepool, whilst Maidenhead came off the back of a 0-0 draw to Woking.
The two sides met on the same dates last year, one game resulting in a 3-2 win for the Stones and the other a 0-0 draw.
There was one change in the team from the Hartlepool game, with Charlie Barker returning from his short injury spell to replace Mason Barrett.
The first half in the game showed pure dominance and great football by Wealdstone, displayed in the score.
It took the Stones eleven minutes to find the first goal, and what a goal it was. Adarkwa continued his goal streak with a curling shot from the edge of the box placed perfectly in the top right corner.
Five minutes later, a Stones free kick saw skipper Jack Cook taken down inside the box. The referee pointed at the penalty spot and who better to convert it than Kretzschmar, who like Adarkwa put himself on the score sheet two games in a row.
Maidenhead woke up with their first major chance of the game halfway into the first half, with two close chances going wide from a tight angle.
The first half continued with chances for Wealdstone, one of which being another free kick in which Tarryn Allarakhia went for goal, however it skimmed the crossbar.
Maidenhead came out stronger in the second half, with a chance coming from a corner where a header bounced off the crossbar.
Kretzschmar had a couple more chances in the second half, where a free kick was palmed over the crossbar and another chance from a tight angle skimmed the bar.
The two teams will meet again next on New Year’s Day for the reverse fixture at The Vale at 3pm.
