Stones win Allen Batsford Shield!
The inaugural Allen Batsford Shield match between Wealdstone and AFC Wimbledon resulted in a win for the Stones by 2 – 0.
Using the match as a chanced to look at two sides in action, Stones fielded 22 players, eleven in each half with the slightly stronger first half side scoring both goals, while the second half saw Stones dominate but not add to their tally. The first goal came on 15 minutes when excellent work and a fine cross from Courtnage was finished with a powerful header from Danny White, as both wing backs got into the action. The second on 25 minutes saw Mapes play a 1 – 2 with Swaysland on the edge of the box, slotting the return pass under the visiting keeper.
There was a slight problem for Manager Gordon Bartlett after the match though when he realised that although 22 players had been used, six potential first teamers missed the match through holidays and injury……
