Wealdstone battled their way to a point in front of the BT Sport cameras against a strong Woking side.

Max Kretzschmar gave the Stones an early lead from the spot after Tarryn Allarakhia had been fouled, but Jermaine Anderson levelled things up four minutes later with a cracker from long range – and that’s the way it stayed.

The draw means the Stones are unbeaten at home this season and are in sixth spot with four wins, two draws a defeat from their first even games.

The game began in hectic fashion, almost resembling a basketball game at times, with both sides getting into the final third on multiple occasions.

The first real chance came for the visitors after seven minutes when an excellent through ball found Padraig Amond bearing down on goal. His low, driven shot was well saved by the legs of Sam Howes, one of half a dozen Stones playing against their former club.

It was the home who took the lead after ten minutes when slick play between Allarakhia and Kretzschmar down the left-hand side of the box saw the former fouled in the box by Luke Wilkinson. Kretzschmar wrestled the ball off usual penalty-taker Rhys Browne and just about squeezed the ball past the diving Craig Ross. It was the perfect time to score his first goal for his new side.

That lead lasted just four minutes. Anderson picked the ball up and smashed home a thunderous strike from 25 yards out.

Woking began the second half the stronger team, with a speculative effort from Jim Kellermann flying just over the bar.

At the other end, Allarakhia superbly beat his man, cut inside before unleashing a ferocious effort from distance, which cannoned back off the crossbar.

The game was mostly played around a midfield battle , with little in the way of clear-cut chances in the second half. Tyreke Johnson fired over for Woking after finding space on the wing. James Daly then received the ball around 30 yards out, and came very close to finding the top corner with an arrowed strike that just flew wide.

The game petered out into a stalemate, with not many chances coming in the last ten minutes. Stuart Maynard said a draw was a fair result but it says plenty about the progress under the manager that the whole place felt a bit disappointed at only winning a point.
