Wealdstone beat Slough Town 2-1 on a hot afternoon at the Rebels’ Arbour Park. Josh Umerah put the Stones ahead before half time, Slough sub Alfonso Tenconi netted for the hosts in the second half and then a trialist grabbed the win late on for the visitors.

It was almost a full complexion of Stones players in the starting eleven with three trialists joined by new signing Lewis Kinsella and also Umerah who made his first pre-season appearance.

The first half played out a typical pre-season encounter. A tepid tactical affair in sweltering heat on Slough’s 4G pitch with limited chances created from either side.

Slough started marginally the stronger side but still took 32 minutes to carve a solid chance when Nathan Ferguson was dispossessed on the edge of the Stones area giving Matt Lench a chance from 20 yards but he swerved his effort over the crossbar.

As the half drew to a close Wealdstone’s prowess and fitness began to show and Kinsella drove forward crossing low to Tecane Shrowder but the young full-back’s effort was blocked well by Guy Hollis.

And the Stones lead on the stroke of half time when some good work down the right by Trialist C found Umerah with a low cross and the striker picked up where left off from last season and slotted an easy finish past Jonathan North.

A host of changes were made at half time, with Alex Dyer, Dom Hutchinson and a number of trialists on the pitch. Only Sam Howes, Shrowder and Trialists A and B remained from the first whistle.

It was Trialist G who had a guilt-edge chance ten minutes into the second half, fluffing a free chance from ten yards out, it then fell to Hutchinson who rolled the ball just wide.

Slough equalised through sub Tenconi after fellow sub James Dobson found the strikers head with a pinpoint cross on 56 minutes.

Trialist B nearly restored the Stones lead twenty minutes later, swerving a 20-yard strike off of the crossbar and then off of North’s back before the Slough defence salvaged it clear.

Wealdstone turned more heat on Slough minutes later when Trialist H headed over the bar following some good work from Trialist B on the left.

Then on the 83rd minute the Stones went ahead. Trialist I crossed in low to Hutchinson, he squared to Trialist H in front of North’s goal and it was a tap in for the forward who had also scored in the first half against Hendon on Tuesday night.

It’s a quick turnaround in games for the Stones who are next in action away to Beaconsfield Town on Monday evening at 7:45PM.
