WealdstoneWealdstone crashed to a 4-0 defeat to Weymouth at the Bob Lucas Stadium and now sit just two points above the home side in the National League table.
A first half goal from Terras captain Josh McQuoid was followed by a rare goal from Weymouth right-back Brennan Camp and Sean Shields scored two in two minutes late on to seal the game.
Stones boss Stuart Maynard made two changes from the side that lost to Notts County last week with Nottingham Forest loanee Riley-Jay Harbottle making his debut and Ross Lafayette came in for Danny Parish.
It was almost a debut goal for Harbottle after 13 minutes, but he just couldn’t quite connect with a header in front of goal that deflected wide for a corner.
Shields almost opened his tally in the first half, cutting inside past Michael Phillips and his shot beating Harry Isted, but Jack Cawley was there to clear off the line.
Weymouth proved to be an organised and resolute opponent, but the Stones started the second half well enjoying a lot of territorial possession in the Weymouth half but without creating any clear opportunities.
And then Camp dealt the Stones a sucker-punch on 58 minutes. Jake McCarthy’s cross looped in the air from a Harbottle block and fell to Camp volleyed in past Isted from 10 yards out.
Ryan Gondoh made his debut in the second half from the bench and almost made an instant impact, breaking down the left with pace he played in Dennon Lewis who cut inside and swerved an effort just over the bar.
The Stones managed to test Weymouth keeper Ethan Ross a couple more times from headers from Harbottle and sub Parish but he saved well both times.
With eight minutes to go the game was sealed. The ball was played to Shields inside the box who had the time to control the ball and then slot past Isted at his near post.
A minute later he had Weymouth’s fourth. McQuoid latched onto a long ball and beat Isted, he had a shot on goal from a tight angle with Cawley managed to head off the line but only as far as the lurking and unmarked Shields who smashed it in from close range.
Stones have three days now to recover and bounce back on Tuesday night at home to Woking.
