For the second match this season, Stones were the better side against Yeading, and for the second time they came away with nothing.

Yeading started brightly as it took Stones ten minutes to get into their stride, but once they did, Yeading were forced back into their own half for long spells. Everything they did going forward ws dealt with capably by the Stones defence while at the other end, Jolly and  Alexander’s movement caused the home defence problems and Williams Jolly and Jullienne all had early chances.

Stones took the lead on 19 minutes when Martin Carter hit a long ball from midfield out wide to Richard Jolly, he beat his man and cut inside, then hitting a low cross into the path of Alexander who’se finish was clinical from 12 yards. Yeading only created one chance in the early stages, a one on one from Campbell who got behind the Stones defence but Carter saved well.

Stones continued to press and could have gone further ahead when Carvell’s header from a corner was just wide, but the home side were to equalise on 36 minutes when a quickly taken free kick allowed Stanley to loop a header just under the bar.

This buoyed Yeading and they had their best spell of the half, but it was a poor decision by the referee that was to change the half, when Julienne was adjudged to have fouled just inside his own half, despite their being no contact and him coming away cleanly with the ball. With Stones players arguing, Yeading took the free kick and the ball broke to Campbell who shot home.

Stones rallied and from the kick off repeated their earlier goal effort, Jolly again cutting in from the right and hitting a cross to Alexander who this time equalised from 6 yards on 43 minutes.

The second half saw Alexander substituted suffering a hamstring injury, and Carter in goal visibly labouring, no doubt suffering a recurrence of his recent injury, and at the start of the half this saw Stones play too deep, allowing Yeading to play, but the defence and Carter coped well.

Stones got on top as the half went on, and it seemed only a matter of time before they scored. Carvell again went close with a header, both Courtnage and Williams saw free kicks just wide, Jolly should have been awarded a penalty when he was pushed over in the penalty box by the previously booked Behzadi – he was lucky to stay on the field after a string of fouls after he had been booked, the referee warning him on a number of occasions.

Tucker saw one header go just wide and another hit the post and Jolly had two efforts cleared off the line, Morgan too just lacked the final inch in getting a touch to a Shaw effort as the half wore on.

The final action though was to rob Wealdstone as Yeading won a free kick in their own half, the ball was pumped long into the Stones penalty area where it was only half cleared. Returned and half cleared again, it fell to Protain who shot home past the stranded Carter to give the home side the points.
