Yeading pay the penalty.
And they did in a match they should have put beyond Wealdstone’s reach, their ability in front of goal letting them down.
Stone started as they had the second half at Northwood on Tuesday, a little brighter but not quite on their game and they were limited to sporadic attempts at goal. Yeading though were little better, creating more chances in the first half but none that troubled the Stones.
The second half saw Yeading press forward early on – they scored one minute into the half through Edwards, and then they gave him space and room to repeat the performance on 65 minutes. Two accurate passes from defence to goal scorer leaving Stones in their wake.
A double substitution seemed to give Stones more shape and as they began to dominate the game the Yeading defence began to crack under the pressure. Twice Wealdstone scored, Moore in the 75th minute and Walker seven minutes later. Moore’s first header from the corner came back off the bar but he reacted quickest to head the rebound home, and a similar corner saw the ball reach the back of the 6 yard box where Walker threw himself into an overhead kick to equalise. Stones it was that should have gone on to win at the end of normal time.
Extra time saw both sides press at times and have chances, Yeading twice hitting the woodwork but as tired legs took over the match petered out into a draw.
Wealdstone scored their first four penalties through Swaysland, Walker, Perry and Tilbury, while Yeading missed one and had one saved by Carter to put Stones through.
