Wingate & Finchley 2 – 0 Wealdstone
2 - 0
There’s not a lot to say about todays performance as, despite early possession Stones looked a little flat throughout the game and rarely troubled the home side.
Stones had a lot of the early possession but failed to pressure the home defence, while on the attack Wingate’s pace always looked likely to cause problems.
With the first half coming to a close, Wingate scored both goals in very similar manner. On both occasions a quick break saw the ball played wide and a low cross was not cleared buy the Stones defence – on the first occasion Leary made a good save only for the ball to fall to the incoming Hakim who reacted first to slot the ball home from close range on 41 minutes, and just four minutes later, a repeat performance saw a Static Stones defence allow Wood to score giving Leary no chance.
The second half again saw Stones have the greater possession but again without threatening, while the home side looked dangerous on the break, Leary making two crucial saves to keep the score at two and keeping Stones in the game.
Wealdstone’s best efforts of the afternoon were a shot from Ryan, deflected wide for a corner and Jolly and Martin Carter at least forcing saves from the home keeper.
With Chesham on New Years day, a win is essential to stop the rot and to stop Stones season falling completely apart, Alexander, Hemmerdinger, Butler and Carvell at least all coming back in contention to start will no doubt see a few changes and Burrell is likely to start for the suspended Courtnage.
