Landlords Cup is Empty

Showing a couple of changes for the League Cup tie at home to Landlords Edgware Town, Wealdstone again started brightly, frequently forcing Edgware back into defence, their only breaks coming through the pace of Blake, wide on the right. Marvin Morgan and Tunji Bamgbola caused problems for the Ware’s defence with their skill, but Stones still lacked a little punch up front.

On 22 minutes though, Stones opened the scoring when a cross from Morgan found Lamb and his drive from the edge of the box was put in by the visitors centre half, Dhesi, running back to cover.

Greene and Morgan had chances to extend the lead before the half hour, but from then on, Edgware forced the pace of the game and created a number of chances with some good skillful play and their pace.

They equalised on 44 minutes when Leenders passed Lamb to collect a long ball, coolly curling a shot into the far corner with only Carter to beat.

The second half saw a re-organised Wealdstone dominate, and on 52 minutes, Bamgbola chased down his defender, stole the ball and then beat three challenges to get to the by-line from where his excellent cross was met by Morgan to head Stones in front. On 65 minutes, Pither replaced Greene and Wealdstone stepped up the pace still further, Morgan again going close before on 71 minutes he laid the ball on for Pither whose sweet shot found the net from 18 yards.

Four minutes later and it was Pither again, collecting the ball 25 yards out, his good first touch set him up for a shot and he made no mistake firing the ball into the top of the net to give Stones a 4 – 1 lead.

Edgware to their credit kept playing and forced Carter to make a couple of saves before winning a free kick, a deep cross beating the Stones defence for Harris to score at the far post.

Stones though continued to dominate and a Deadman cross found Morgan at the far post where he headed Stones fifth to seal a good win and a far better performance than of late.
