Sticking with the same starting line up that played well but lost at home on Saturday, Stones had to prove themselves again tonight and in the end they did.

Dunstable started brighter and there direct style put Wealdstone’s defence under some pressure early on, but the Stones back line was resolute and stifled all threat the visitors had to offer – Andy Carter not having to make a save until well into the first half, his reactions allowing him to get a foot in the way of a shot from Spring.

Stones rode the pressure well for the first twenty minutes and then started to play football around their opponents, Morgan and Jolly causing problems with their pace up front as they forced the visitors back, before on 33 minutes Marvin Morgan opened the scoring.

He collected the ball wide on the right and his strength on the ball took him through four challenges on the edge of the box as he cut inside, and then from the centre of the goal on 18 yards, he curled a drive into the corner of the net.

Five minutes later and it was 2 – 0 as a long cross from Williams on the left found James Duncan at the back of the 6 yard box and his cushioned volley gave the goalkeeper no chance.

Stones piled on the pressure and on 44 minutes, Williams again broke forward, his low cross was into a tangle of bodies on the six yard line, where Marvin Morgan got the final touch to score his second of the night.

The second half saw Stones dominate from the off, but it was not until the 72nd minute that they extended the lead. Sub Danny julienne won the ball in midfield and passed quickly to Dave Ryan whose first time ball into the path of Richard Jolly was enough to beat the defence and Jolly made no mistake with a shot from 12 yards to make the score 4 – 0.

With Jolly and Morgan both being replaced, Martin Carter moved forward with Ben Alexander. On 80 minutes the ball was knocked to Shaw. His cross was met by Morgan but half cleared, falling at the feet of Alexander with two defenders on him, however his quick feet and strength saw him ride the challenges and create enough space to coolly slot the ball in for Stones fifth goal of the evening.

A good way to bounce back from Saturday’s defeat!
