Five Star Holmes

After a slow start in which Wealdstone were at times under pressure, a five star performance from Carl Holmes turned the match for the Stones.

It was Bromley who took the lead though, on 27 minutes when a deep ball deceived Lee Walker and as he waited for it to drop, Bromley No 2 Gibson nipped in front of him and chipped last man Watts to give the visitors the lead. At this point Stones lost their shape for a few minutes but soon regained their composure, and to excellent support from the side-lines lifted their game.

On 38 minutes from a sweet pass from Butterfield, the ball found Holmes and from fully thirty yards he struck a sweet equaliser. This gave the whole game a lift, but both sides cancelled each other out for the remainder of the half.

Ten minutes into the second half and Stones broke forward, a low cross from Carter found Hingley on the edge of the six yard box and he struck home to give Stones the lead. This seemed to knock the stuffing out of Bromley, and they were forced to defend for long periods before on 80 minutes, a great ball from Lamb found Holmes just inside the edge of the box, and one step inside allowed him to rifle home his second with his left foot.

Although Bromley lifted their game, it was only five minutes later when Holmes met another cross by the penalty spot and shot home his third and Wealdstone’s fourth goal.

The game became more physical for the last few minutes and a scuffle by the dugouts resulted in Bromley’s Forbes being sent off.

Honest Opinion?  Half an hour in, and this game was a struggle but excellent support spurred the Stones on. As they found a little confidence there was only to be one winner but it has to continue.
