Wealdstone recorded their best start for a couple of seasons with an impressive 4 – 1 win against Bromley this afternoon.

With four players who you would expect to have been in the 14 unavailable, Wealdstone started a little nervously, but settled after three or four minutes. They were settled even further after 6 minutes when a foul on the left hand side resulted in a Stones free kick. The ball was touched by McDonnagh to the mercurial Fergus Moore whose low hard shot found the corner of the net to give him on his return and Stones the best possible start.

Bromley struggled to fin their feet and created little while Stones grew in confidence and stroked the ball around, but on 16 minutes, the visitors equalised when a poor clearance fell across the box to Side who scored with a volley.

Some six minutes later and Stones were again on the attack, a delightful flick from Walker fell into the path of Jason Shaw running through the Bromley defence and he made no mistake, shooting home to restore Stones lead. This seemed to calm Stones still further while Bromley became agitated and a number of niggling challenges resulted in bookings for the visitors.

Their afternoon was worsened further when on 33 minutes a free kick was partially cleared to Somers who shot home from 20 yards to make the score 3-1, and despite further pressure there were no more first half goals.

The second half started in similar vein but one potentially dangerous challenge on Fergus Moore resulted in a booking for the Bromley 4 Garland, while Fergus’ retaliation earned him a red card on 50 minutes. Somers dropped back to full back and it took Stones a couple of minutes to find their shape, but they were settled further when Hammatt was brought down in the box on 61 minutes, Reeve slotting home the penalty to give Stones a 4-1 lead.

Reduced to ten men you might have expected Stones to be put under pressure but Bromley seemed unable to create a clear chance and if anyone was likely to score again it was a settled and composed 10 man Stones.
