Wealdstone 4 – 0 Oxford City
4 - 0
Stones were never in trouble against an Oxford side that lacked any control in midfield and with the usually steady Julian Dark playing wide rather than sweeping, Stones made the most of extra space in the middle of the park.
After a bright start, Stones were awarded a penalty after 15 minutes when Cruse was adjudged to have handled the ball blocking a strong shot from Mapes. Mickie Swaysland strode up but his kick was saved by the visiting keeper only for the ball to run free, Sways making no mistake with the rebound.
As Stones continued to dominate but without really threatening, it took a free kick wide on the right to increase the lead, Carvell’s kick reached Swaysland again and his feint header looped over the keeper to make the score 2-0.
Stones continued to press forward but were restricted to long shots for the remainder of the half, Shaw, Mapes and Ryan all going close.
The second half saw Stones on top again and on 50 minutes, an excellent cross from Mapes found Swaysland running in and his firm header completed his hat-trick.
Two minutes later another long cross was attacked by a number of players and as the visiting keeper punched clear he collided with Robin Tucker. Both players fell to the floor, Tucker suffering a nasty cut to the back of his head and the goalkeeper suffering concussion and a suspected broken jaw.
Tucker was bandaged up like a mummy but was able to continue while the keeper went off to hospital, Paul Woodhouse taking over in goal.
This took the pace out of the game although Stones were never in trouble and on 67 minutes, Mapes drove in a low cross from the byline which Julian dark got a feint touch on, but it was enough to divert the ball home for Stones 4th goal.
