Ford Bridged

A deserved victory for the Stones in this match but they did try and make hard work of it against the Ford side that featured a number of reserve players, Stones too though were still below full strength due to injuries and suspensions and players cup-tied.

Stones attacked from the off and were unlucky early on when a shot from Hammatt was just over the bar and Pither too was unlucky with a long range effort. Marvin Morgan just failed to reach a header in the six yard box that seemed certain to give Stones the lead but it was left to Bryan Hammatt on 22 minutes to head in a Pither cross to open the scoring.

Ford moved the ball quickly and broke through the Stones defence on a couple of occasions, Carter doing well handling their efforts to preserve Stones lead. On 43 minutes Hammatt extended the lead when good work from Deadman saw him strike a low cross into the goalmouth, Hammatt was on hand to slot it into the net to give the home side a 2 – 0 half-time lead.

The second half saw Ford come more into the game as Stones settled tier pattern of play, disrupted when Danny reeve went off with an injury at half time to be replaced by Bamgbola, and they got themselves back into the game on 56 minutes when a great strike from Lay found the back of the net.

Stones continued to press and make chances, Bamgbola breaking well down the flanks, and both Hammatt and Morgan had chances, before Richard Horner was unlucky when he broke through the visitors defence, the move seemingly ended by a foul that all but the officials saw.

On the hour though, stones got their penalty when Morgan was brought down and Hammatt shot home to give Stones a 3 – 1 lead, before Gerraghty pulled another goal back for Ford shortly afterwards to leave the final score 3 – 2.
