Wealdstone 2 – 3 Walton & Hersham

Walton Nightmare…
A real end of the season match for most of the players from both sides was how this game started, as lax defending and a deflected shot gave Walton a lead after two minutes.
A young Stones line up though battled back into the game and both Alexander and Morgan created a number of chances for others before in the 18th minute Walton were reduced to ten after a defender struck Paul Lamb.
This changed the game, as Walton it was who made the best use of the space and at times seemed to have an extra man rather than one less as they played the better football for long spells, while Stones created the best chances, Lamb missing the target from close in, a bobble defeating Carl Holmes in the box and Tilbury shooting just wide.
After a period of Stones pressure, it was Holmes on 33 minutes who got the equaliser from close in, while Morgan and Alexander again worried the Walton defence but were unable to increase the lead.
The second half was played in similar vein and it was on 65 minutes that Lee walker, who has a habit of scoring at the end of the season put Stones in front. A corner from Lamb was not well cleared and as the ball broke to Morgan under pressure he managed to find Walker with a short pass and he shot home.
With the game coming to a close, Wealdstone were to suffer a nightmare finish – with three minutes to go Walton broke and equalised after some poor defending left Leary on his own and although he stopped the first effort, no-one covered the second shot. As we all turned to discuss that this was the twelth time this season etc etc, Walton broke away again and scored the winner at the far post.
Honest Opinion? It always matters because its Pride and its Football, but this week after the result at Romford to stay up and the Planning Approval to help us secure a future, plus the young side, for once it really didn’t matter that much at all. It is still a habit we have to break though.
