Barton RoversNot a good result by any means, although at times a better performance.
We played some football which has been sadly lacking in recent games, but we seemed frightened in front of goal, and defensive frailties were to be the downfall once again.
Barton opened the scoring when Joe O’Reagan bundled a forward over on thirteen minutes to concede a penalty.
Stones were struggling at the time, but as the half progressed they regained their composure and started to dominate, certainly in terms of possession. The best chances were three one on ones that all fell to Richard jolly – each time he was thwarted by Brad Gillham in the Barton goal. Yet again the goalkeeper was Barton’s best player against us!
The second half saw Stones dominate from the start and good work from Tilbury and Swaysland created an opening for Jolly to equalise on 50 minutes. Three minutes later and Barton were awarded a free kick outside the box. Nathan Cobb deputising for Andy Carter (miss)placed his wall, and the kick sneaked in to the corner to restore the visitors lead.
Stones pressed and played their way well into the Barton half, and their chances were improved when Daley was sent off on 67 minutes for a second booking, but they failed to make the final ball count and equalise.
Substitute Fisher suffered a ligament injury for Barton after all three subs had been used, so the visitors were reduced to nine players on 80 and Stones forced them well back into their own box. A poor clearance on 88 minutes fell to tommy Williams, and he shot home to equalise on 88 minutes, with Stones looking to be the only likely winners.
That was until the 5th minute of time added on, when Dave Ryan lost the ball in midfield. Lockhead ran through to create a one on one well saved by Cobb but as he saved the ball struck Mark Burgess and crept over the line to give Barton all three points and hammer another nail hard into Stones promotion chances.
