Wealdstone 2 – 2 Bishop’s Stortford
2 - 2
Stortford Draw
A mixed bag in a game where Wealdstone should really have made more of early chances. Stones were on top early on with both Morgan and Hammatt going close before the game evened out as both sides hustled their opponents, only occasionally breaking through A push on Danny reeve by the touchline was missed by the officials and as Paul’s cross was swung in, Allison hit a low drive into the corner to give the visitors a half time lead with almost the last kick.
The second half started dismally for Stones though as Stortford had far the better of the game, Stones seemingly flat footed after the break but despite a few half chances the score remained 0 – 1 until the 75th minute when Carter came out of his area to clear the ball, it struck Trevor Paul running in and deflected towards the home goal where Paul followed up to tap home and give the visitors a 2 – 0 lead.
This at last sparked the Stones into action and they pressed forward in numbers, Horner hitting the post with a header and Hammatt and Shaw both going close with shots from distance. On 83 minutes, Stones pressure bore fruit when Pither cut in from the right and shot into the far corner through a crowded area.
Stones continued to press on, but in the 89th minute, a Stortford break saw Shaw foul Vinny John. He got up to strike the penalty but Andy Carter made an excellent save. Gathering the ball quickly he released Chamberlain, his ball forward saw Hammatt fouled, and with everyone forward except Vinny Somers and Andy Carter for the free kick, Shaw’s delivery found Danny Reeve and his header gave Stones their equaliser.
