Stones Reach Cup Final
Wealdstone reached their first Cup Final in five years on Tuesday evening with a 2 – 1 win away to Uxbridge in the Middlesex Charity Cup Semi Final.
An early error from the home keeper saw him handle the ball outside the penalty area and Uxbridge were reduced to ten men in the first five minutes. On performance for the remainder of the half though, you would not have believed it as they made most of the running limiting the Stones to occasional breaks out . Uxbridge took the lead on 35 minutes, a through ball well placed to the strikers foot meant his shot gave Carter no chance.
The second half saw stones improve and they were on top of the game for spells, equalising on 57 minutes when Fergus Moore headed home at the back post from a corner. The game was then fairly even until Fergus Moore conceded a penalty on 82 minutes, tugging a forward’s shirt. Andy Carter was up for the challenge however, making a great save to keep Stones hopes alive.
This seemed to deflate Uxbridge a little and it was from another deep cross that Matt Perry rose to head the winner on 86 minutes, Stones now playing either Enfield Town or Ashford Town (Middlesex) in the final.
