Wealdstone 2 – 1 Tibury

Til the next time….
We knew what to expect from Tilbury and we were not disappointed. Yet again they harried and hassled and chased evry ball, and with Wealdstone below par again, they possibly deserved more.
Stones this time started brighter competing with tilbury from the off, both sides trying to gain an early advantage, but again it was a game where the defences although under pressure stifled the majority of attacks.
Stone took the lead on 15 minutes when from a corner the ball was cleared to Somers, his control gave him an opportunity to shoot through a crowded area from 25 yards and the shot completely deceived the visiting keeper who seemed to leave the ball thinking it was going wide but it found the corner of the net for a slightly fortunate lead.
For the rest of the half the play was even, Tilbury’s pace causing problems and Stones attempts at playing the long ball being easily coped with by a tall visiting defence until on 28 minutes, Paul Lamb was fouled by the touch line, the Tilbury defender appearing to stamp on him on the ground. this was spotted by the referee who immediately showed the red card, reducing the visitors to 10 men.
A reshuffle saw Jones, who had been causing problems for the Stones defence drop to right back, and from this point Tilbury struggled to make any pressure tell .
The second half followed a similar pattern until on57 minutes Danny Tilbury collected the ball wide on the right, and cut inside beating three or four defenders. Cutting into the box he was met by Jones who swung a foot to take the ball off Tilbury’s feet, only to see it curl into the far corner of the net to give Stones a slightly fortunate 2 – 0 lead.
This they held until about ten minutes from time when a needless free kick gave the visitors the chance to score, Jones picking up a lose ball and curling a powerful shot past Carter.
The last ten minutes then became frantic and error strewn as Tilbury searched for an equaliser and Stones battled to stay in front. After 11 minutes of injury time, the final whistle blew to give Stones a 2 – 1 win.
