With a little help from our friends!

And it was a little help from Slough that gave Wealdstone the win this afternoon.

A tight first half saw both sides strong in the challenge, although both had plenty of possession, neither created a great deal in the last third, only ‘half chances’ troubling either keeper. Stones had an early opportunity through Somers but he couldn’t set the ball for the shot, and Slough saw a Haynes header well saved.

Turning round at 0 – 0, it was Wealdstone that started the brighter in the second half frequently forcing the visiting defence to play the ball back to their keeper to clear under pressure and it was on one of these occasions that Stones took the lead. Tilbury chased the ball down as the keeper prepared to clear, stealing the ball on the edge of the penalty area.

His pass inside found Lee Walker who had been on the field less than a minute and under pressure he miss-hit his shot but it was good enough to beat full back Houston on the line, giving Stones a lead they just about deserved on 66 minutes.

Ten minutes later and the same players were to figure again – this time the ball broke to Walker out wide and his cross come shot seemed to be heading out for a throw in when Houston again stabbed out a foot, under pressure from Somers, the ball neatly nestling in the corner of the net to give Stones a 2 – 0 lead.

This seemed to relax the Wealdstone team a little too much and Slough came back into the game, certainly being more dangerous in the last fifteen minutes than in the first seventy five and with four minutes to go a long cross fell kindly for Ahynes to score with what looked like his knee when perhaps Tucker should have attacked the ball and cleared.

Wealdstone then played out the remaining minutes keeping possession in the corners, only allowing Slough one further break which was safely cleared.
