Stones battle back for vital win….
Three substitutes combined to help Wealdstone to a crucial 2-1 home win over Harlow Town in the Ryman Premier last night.
Gordon Bartlett’s side suffered a woeful start to the match and fell behind. The display forced the manager to ring the changes and introduced Graeme Montgomery, Dean Papali and the returning defender Jomo Faal-Thomas after he rejoined from St Albans.
The Stones left it late but after 80 minutes they equalised when Papali was brought down and the striker picked himself up to convert the penalty. And he notched his second of the match within three minutes when he touched in Montgomery’s shot from Faal-Thomas’ cross.
Bartlett admitted: “We needed a bit of fortune and we got it. They will probably feel they deserved something out of the game.
“We had a dreadful start to the match and could have been 3-0 down early on. Far from playing well we came back and finished the game a lot stronger.”
