In the match a Stones side featuring a number of players regaining fitness and experience were too good early on for Hanwell Town, and Stones cruised to an early two goal lead. The first on 10 minutes when Hammatt headed in a McDonnagh corner, and four minutes later when Somers headed in a McDonnagh cross. by then though, Wealdstone should have scored three or four, Hammatt beating the goalkeeper one on one only to shoot across the face of the goal, while Tilbury also went close.

The remainder of the first half saw Wealdstone create a number of chances but fail to extend their lead.

The second half was following a similar pattern, Nathan Cobb in the Stones goal making a number of excellent saves as the defence allowed Hanwell back into the game, and on 64 minutes, Cobb saved well from close range, only for the ball to break across the box where a Hanwell shot was punched over full length by Matt Perry, who up till then had had an outstanding game.

He was dismissed and Hanwell duly scored from the spot to give themselves hope, although Wealdstone’s ten men coped well for the remainder of the match, the 2 – 1 win enough to see a second round trip to Potters Bar secured.
