Wealdstone 2 – 0 Yeading
2 - 0
Stones took the game to their opponents from the off, and could have taken a two goal lead in the first few minutes as both Morgan and Jolly had chances, the visitors struggling with Wealdstone’s pace up front and some good football played in the build up.
As the half continued, Wealdstone continued to dominate, as Jolly again went close and Beckford saw a shot rebound from the post Morgan unable to place the return on target.
Stones defence was well marshalled by Carvell, with Ryan dominating in the air and Fisher and league debutant Matt Graves (son of former Stone Mark) playing well at full back, limiting the visitors to long range half chances.
Stones went ahead on 30 when a Williams free kick deceived Hodson, it fell to Beckford at the back post and his header across goal allowed Tilbury to plant the ball home.
Stones continued to press and limited Yeading to one real chance just before half time, but a wayward finish relieved the pressure. It seemed to be a problem for the visitors all afternoon as on a number of occasions their dead ball kicking and throw ins often fell directly to a Wealdstone player.
The second half saw Yeading push on a little more, but to no avail as Stones maintained their dominance. The second goal came on 50 minutes, when a Carter corner was floated in, Hodson went to punch clear but misjudged under pressure from Morgan and the ball struck the trailing shoulder and bounced into the net.
Stones really should have made more of their dominance and chances but after the recent run they will be more than happy with the win.
