Wealdstone 2 – 0 Enfield
2 - 0
Changes to the Stones line up tonight saw Robin Tucker return from suspension with Matt Carvell, Ben Alexander and Danny Jullienne all added to the starting line up with Morgan, Ryan, Amartiefio and Duncan dropping to the bench, in the hope of sparking up the Stones after two defeats.
In the first twenty minutes it seemed to have the opposite effect as Enfield were sharper and brighter, and all Stones had to show was an effort from the edge of the box from Williams – their defence though had limited Enfield to nothing more than a half chance as the game concentrated around the midfield.
Stones struggled as Enfield harried for every ball, but as the half wore on, Wealdstone did move better and they created a little more, Jolly and Alexander also having chances before half time.
In the second half Stones were more on top of the game and they took the lead on 52 minutes when an excellent free kick from Tommy Williams found Matt Carvell who headed home strongly from 12 yards.
Stones continued to press the visitors and Leary in the Stones goal had a relatively quiet night – when Enfield did manage to break through their finishing was somewhat wayward, while Stones created enough to force Courtnage into a couple of saves.
As the half wore on and the fog came down, Stones pressed forward and they were rewarded in the 90th minute when good work from Morgan saw a run into the box, his square ball found Rob Courtnage and he drew the visiting keeper (his brother) before chipping the ball sideways to Martin Carter who headed home from 6 yards to make the score 2 – 0.
It was not a polished performance, nor was it as good as the football played in two recent defeats to Leyton and Hemel, but it was enough to secure the three points against struggling Enfield.
