Wealdstone 1 – 3 Walton & Hersham
1 - 3
Stones lost at home tonight to Walton & Hersham in a dismal match in which it seemed they never really started.
Despite their early efforts, Stones never really recovered from allowing Walton to take the lead on two minutes when Traynor scored with a near post header and despite having the majority of the play, they never threatened the visiting goal with a clear chance – their best efforts coming when Perks in the Walton goal spilled a cross – Jolly stretched at the far post but could only push the ball across the face of the unprotected goal, and a second chance that fell to Burrell after the keeper again spilled the ball.
Stones contrived through poor defending to gifted Walton a second just on the half hour when a tackle was missed and the defence pulled towards the ball leaving Lampton unmarked in the centre of the penalty box and he picked his spot with a low shot to give the visitors a 2-0 lead.
In the second half Stones seemed to be more unsettled by the physical side of Walton’s play and they became less effective and it was no surprise when Walton extended their lead on 49 minutes when Jenkins scored with a header from about 8 yards, though the rest of the match tailed off somewhat, neither side really managing to create anything positive.
Stones did get a goal back when Beckford scored a near post header on 87 minutes but it was too little too late and Walton took the points with a 3-1 victory.
