Wealdstone 1 – 2 Bishop’s Stortford
1 - 2
No Justice…
And there really wasn’t tonight as Stones failed to get anything from a game they could easily have won.
Promotion hopefuls Bishops Stortford started brightly, but were well matched by the Stones until on 8 minutes Darren Watts missed his footing going for a cross, only to flap it onto the post and into the net to give the visitors the lead.
Stones worked hard and created a number of chances, Reeve going close with a free kick and Holmes and Hingley having chances before Danny Tilbury equalised on 26 minutes with an excellent shot from 35 yards.
Stones continued to press and in the second half, were the better side, creating more up front with Hingley working exceptionally hard, limiting Stortford to occasional breaks.
Holmes, Hingley, Tilbury and Butterfield all went close, Butterfield seeing a shot bounce back off the underside of the bar to safety and then substitute Alexander narrowly missing with a snap shot.
In the last ten minutes Stortford pressed hard and a defensive error gave Hayes the chance to shoot past Watts from the edge of the box, only for Perry Norman to instinctively save with his hand on the goal line, being sent off and conceding a penalty, scored by Hayes to give the visitors a fortunate three points.
Honest Opinion? A far better performance that really deserved something, but if the goals don go in Stones will go down.
