Wealdstone 1 – 2 Barking & East Ham United
1 - 2
Stones yet again failed to beat an opponent despite being the better side through most of this match, yet failing to score despite their possession.
Barking had two attempts on goal, eighty minutes apart, both similar in that they came from defensive errors and allowed Carter to use his pace and break away for a 1 on 1, and he scored both. In fact he was similarly placed on 88 minutes to break away for a third attempt, until a professional foul from Danny Butler stopped him, for which Butler was rightly red carded.
In between, Marvin Morgan on 30 minutes broke away from three strong if not foul challenges to cross deep to the far post where Richard Jolly scored from close range to equalise, and on 44 minutes, Jolly’s ball forward was handled in the box and Stones were awarded a penalty. Unfortunately, for the eighth time this season, the opportunity was missed as this time Martin Carter’s attempt came back off the post.
Jolly also had the best chance of the second half when his header flashed wide from Tilbury’s cross, but to be honest there was little else positive once Stones progressed to the last third.
Desperately lacking confidence in front of goal, Stones forwards on numerous occasions chose to pass rather than shoot and the Barking defence, in numbers, was equal to the challenge.

Barking mad to be beaten by basement side….
WEALDSTONE’S depressing run of results this year took an even worse turn on Saturday with this defeat to the side at the bottom of the table.
Slow off the mark yet again, visitors Barking, through Carter and Read, looked dangerous from the outset.
They took the lead in the eighth minute when Carter took advantage of a poor defensive header by Marc Cumberbatch to run in on goal and thump a shot past his namesake.
On 26 minutes, Wealdstone drew level, somewhat out-of-the-blue, but in spectaclar fashion.
Marvin Morgan, constantly hassled by a defender, went off on a lengthy run and sent over an immaculate cross from the by-line that Richard Jolly smacked in with glee at the far post.
As half-time neared, a handball by Bennett gave Wealdstone a penalty and the hopeful platform to go on and win the game with some style, but Martin Carter was the latest to fail from the spot when his forceful kick struck the inside of a post to rebound out of play on the opposite side of the goal.
Jolly was unable to bring off a second spectacular far post strike when he put his header from Tilbury’s cross wide soon after the restart.
The game fizzled out from then, until ten minutes from time when Carter outpaced Cumberbatch to score again in a similar fashion to his first.
Carter could have got a hat-trick minutes later, but failed to get sufficient power on a shot which was held comfortably by the Stones keeper.
Frustration showed in the Wealdstone ranks and Danny Butler got himself dismissed for a foul when last man, even when the offence was on the wing, near the halfway line….
