There’s no getting over this. It was a poor Stones performance against their struggling neighbours, and a point at the end of the game was only just about deserved.

Stones lacked balance in the side and were not hungry enough from the start in a dismal first half. Wembley, were not particularly inventive but they worked very hard and were effective as a team and they took a deserved and not unsurprising lead through a defensive error on 36 minutes. Dave Ryan was unable to clear a cross which then hung in the air – indecision from Andy Carter and Robin Tucker allowed Davies to climb and score with a simple header, while Stones struggled to compete.

There were no bright spots in the first half and Wembley were unlucky not to increase their lead early in the second when Davies again, missed from close range.

Stones did equalise from the only real spell of pressure after 53 minutes, a cross breaking to Mickie Swaysland on the angle of the box and his volley flew in, but when you expected this to spark Stones performance it didn’t as the game became a battle between two midfields.

Wembley had Bates sent of on 72 minutes and from then defended in numbers and again Stones were unable to and lacked the invention to break down the ten men, a poor performance resulting in two points dropped rather than one gained.
