Wealdstone 1 – 0 Waltham Forest
1 - 0
Stones desperately needed a win today against Waltham Forest, but still lacking Williams and Duncan through suspension and Tucker, Shaw and Alexander through injury, Gordon was forced to re-jig the side once again, but this time with more success.
Stones had the better of the opening exchanges and could have taken the lead through Ryan or Jolly, both having efforts well saved, while Waltham Forest had only one shot early in the half, when Luke Majid should really have scored but failed to force a save from Andy Carter.
As half time approached, despite Stones having had the better of the half all round and the visitors only occasional forays forward on the break, Carter did well to save close in from a snap shot, and Amartiefio covered well to block the follow up, leaving the first half goalless.
The second half saw the visitors looking to disrupt Stones with a little more physical presence but all they really succeeded in doing was keeping the Referee busy.
Stones scored what turned out to be the only goal of the match on 75 minutes when a corner was partially cleared to Kidon, and his cross was headed home by Jolly. A couple of minutes later Jolly almost extended the lead when a header, this time from a Burrell free kick flashed just wide.
All the excitement was reserved for the last few minutes when first Guei was sent off for a second yellow card after a clumsy challenge, and he was soon followed by Tickner, again for a second booking after a very heavy challenge on Morgan.
It wasn’t the greatest game, but Stones will be happy with the way they defended when required and built their attacks, although a little more belief and a clinical finish in the last third may have seen a bigger score line.
With no game now for ten days, there is at least a chance for some of the injuries to recover.
