Staines on the record

At last a performance to offer a little cheer as the season ends, against a Staines side that were very out of sorts.

Stones, featured Joseph O’Reagan in his first start, David Godfrey and Olatunji Bamgbola in a line up that included 6 U19’s. They were sharper and stronger from the start, and for the first time in recent weeks, played some nice passing, flowing football to dominate the game almost from the start, limiting Staines to occasional breaks, well marshalled by the home defence.

Tunji Bamgbola looked sharper as the game progressed and crosses to both Morgan and walker caused the visitors problems, while a shot of his own was touched over the bar, but Stones couldn’t find the breakthrough to open the scoring.

The second half saw a similar pattern with Wealdstone well on top until in the 60th minute, the ball fell to the mercurial Lee Walker who drove home from 16 yards to score what was the only goal of the game.

Stones can count themselves a little unlucky not to have increased their lead as Staines were forced farther and farther back, Morgan in particular could have had a hat-trick, and Walker and Bamgbola could also have added to the score, but it was not to be. The win however, welcome as Stones approach the Cup Final on May 6th.

Wealdstone: David Godfrey, Robin Tucker, Matt Perry, Fergus Moore, Joseph O’Reagan, Jason Shaw, Olatunji Bamgbola, Martin Carter, Lee Walker (60, s79 Mick Swaysland), Marvin Morgan, Danny Tilbury (s45 James Duncan), Sub not used: Joel Marie-Sainte.
