Draks’ Spell Defeats Stones
Former Stone and Yeading manager Johnson (Drak’s) Hippolyte must have been all smiles after this match, seeing his side do more than enough to win in the early stages, and defend well as Stones finally got into the match after half time.
From the start Yeading attacked and forced Stones into their own penalty box for much of the early play – when Stones did break out their lack of confidence and poor passing soon saw the defence and midfield back under pressure as Yeading were faster to the ball throughout the team and in most cases stronger in the challenge. On the odd occasion Stones did threaten Tilbury was unlucky to see a snap shot on the turn tipped over the bar, but he too should have done better with a header later.
It was not until the 36th minute though, that the visitors opened the scoring, a long cross from the right found Telemaque at the back of the six yard box. He outjumped Lamb and his looping header beat Carter who was covering the near post.
Eight minutes later and they further extended the lead when a similar cross found Miller who headed the ball back to the this time unmarked Telemaque, who volleyed home, picking his spot, from almost on the penalty spot.
Half time saw the ineffective McDonnagh and Somers replaced as Stones reshuffled, and despite having the better of the half, they couldn’t get on the scoresheet. Moore headed just wide from a corner, as did Hammatt and Tilbury and Horner also saw efforts saved.
There was more shape about Stones in the second half, but still the lack of a finish cost them dear.
