AveleyA positive first half in which Stones failed to convert anyone of five chances – despite hitting the woodwork on three occasions summed up Stones luck at the moment.
The second half saw a mistake in the centre circle after 50 minutes which allowed Aveley to break (like the first half when in the first six minutes they failed to touch the ball in the Wealdstone half). Break they did and a cross across the face of the goal allowed Trevor Paul to slot home.
That saw Stones shoulders drop as they really should have been three up and it was not surprise when another mistake in a similar area led to the visitors second goal on 75 minutes.
Stones did rally towards the end but to no avail as this season that promised so much early on really does peter out – painfully slowly.
