Wealdstone 0 – 1 Toooting & Mitcham United

Tooting batter Stones
Not by the score line, but certainly by their strength across the field, a strong physical Tooting side defending well in numbers, and they did enough to stifle a poor Stones front line, winning with the only goal of the game, from their only real shot on target!
Stones looked competent in defence and held the balance of play in midfield, but what they gained in defensive capability, they lost in invention, lacking the instinct in front of goal to make their play and pressure count.
The match itself was a physical affair, reflected in six booking and a sending off for the visitors, to one booking for Wealdstone, but there was little else to report in a match where Stones were beaten on 25 minutes, Andy Sayer striking an excellent shot into the top corner from fully 25 yards – similar to the goal conceded at Staines last week, but it was there only notable attack in the whole game.
Stones had the majority of the possession, the last 20 minutes attacking in numbers, but their best effort was a shot from Deadman that hit the bar.
Defensively, Horner and Perry were assured, the remainder of the defence and midfield competent and efficient, but there was little good in the last third when attacking, poor crosses and perhaps a little too much football preventing Stones from really concerning the visiting defence.
