Nervous Nineties

And that is what everyone is suffering at Wealdstone, as the side manage for the second time in a week to lose to a 90th minute goal.

After a strong battling match in poor conditions Stones again showed their frailty in front of goal and failed to score, Jones coming closest in the first half, Jones Tilbury, Holmes and Morgan all having half chances in the second half.

All this against a skilful Oxford side who also failed to threaten, their first effort on target to really test Watts coming in the 82nd minute, although Carter had cleared an effort off the line earlier in the half.

For all their possession and pressure, Stones dominated in long periods but were unable to break down the visitors defence, marshalled as always by Julian Dark, and it was in the 90th minute a long ball down the right flank was well crossed for what was really a tap in to give Oxford a somewhat fortunate three points.

Honest Opinion? There was nothing that hasn’t already been said, Stones battled well, failed to score and should have defended better to prevent the goal. It makes tomorrow a winner takes all battle to avoid relegation…
