Walton on Song

A very fast paced game against a strong and quick Walton side saw Wealdstone somewhat fortunately run out winners by 2-1 this evening for a perfect start to the season (so far!).

Stone started brighter and played some excellent football for the first twenty or so minutes, none better than the move that brought about the opening goal, Tilbury shielding the ball well before laying it into the path of Bryson on the overlap, his first time low cross helped on by Hammatt on the edge of the six yard box for Walker to stab home on six minutes.

Slowly Walton began to close down the midfield and they forced Stones onto the back foot, occasional breaks releasing the pressure, and it was stones agin who should have increased their lead an excellent cross from Somers headed wide by Walker, but despite the Walton pressure, Carter in the Stones goal was rarely threatened, and at half time Stone lead 1-0.

Six minutes into the second half, moments after Bryan Hammatt had a shot hit the post from 20 yards, and Stones failed to clear a cross, edgar stabbing home the equaliser in a scramble and from this point Walton dominated the match with skill and pace, not allowing Stones to play. However for all their dominance they rarely threatened the Stones goal.

Stones continued to battle and press forward when they could, eventually forcing a corner on 81 minutes, the cross fell to Hammatt and his knock back into the middle was controlled and fired home by Chandler to give Stones all three points when they looked as though they may have to hang on for one.
