Uxbridge 1 -0 Wealdstone

1 - 0

There was a better performance today against a solid but uninspiring Uxbridge side, in a match settled by a single goal.
Both sides started nervously, although Stones played the better football they were unable to break through the Uxbridge defence and then on 20 minutes, Andy Carter under hit a pass to Billy Amarteifio, Mark Nicholls stole in and chipped the ball in from 20 yards. Stones though battled on but struggled to create any real opening before half time, although Jolly got through for a one on one well saved by the home keeper..
The second half followed a similar pattern – very much end of season fare – and although chances fell to Jolly, Swaysland, Morgan and Tilbury the only real threat was a shot from Beckford that came back off the post as Stones it seemed became resolved to another defeat.
Wealdstone: Andy Carter, Billy Amarteifio, Rob Courtnage (b50 s70 Andy Myhill), Mark Burgess (s70 Jermaine Beckford), Matt Carvell, Martin Carter (s70 Mickie Swaysland), Dave Ryan, Richard Jolly, Marvin Morgan, Danny Tilbury, Subs not used: James Fisher, Fred Cummings

ONE moment’s lack of concentration by Wealdstone goalkeeper Andy Carter was enough to send the Stones to yet another Ryman league defeat on Saturday, writes Steve Paull.
As this run of poor results continues from March into April, it was Carter’s howler when dealing with a simple pass out to defender Billy Amarteifio that ultimately cost Stones at least a draw in an evenly balanced game.
This came after 20 minutes of seemingly passionless football. The pass back to Carter was controlled with ease but the ball out to Amarteifio went straight to Uxbridge’s ex-Chelsea forward Nicholls, whose immediate chip over the stranded keeper was unerring in its accuracy.
Now the game came to life a little. Referee Downey became the villain with Stones’ supporters when he turned down a valid penalty appeal within a minute after Marvin Morgan was felled in the box, then ruled out a ‘goal’ from Danny Tilbury as Uxbridge keeper Pelton appeared to pull the ball back from over the line as he fell on it.
Apart from the goal, Uxbridge forwards had seemed to be comatose in the first half, after the break they were more evident. Goodall fired straight at Carter when well placed and Howell fired over in similar circumstances.
Even into added time Stones still pressed for the leveller. Beckford twice in this period had chances to score. Firstly he headed just over, then hit the post with a shot through a crowded goalmouth in what turned out to be the last kick of the game.
