‘Bridge’ over troubled water ?

There’s not a lot to be said after yet another game when Wealdstone had more than enough chances to win the match, yet a defensive error cost them the points.

A poor start from both sides, as neither looked particularly good and it wasn’t until 25 minutes that there was really a chance, an Uxbridge break resulting in a wide shot. Stones first chance fell to Swaysland, his header from a corner going wide, but an excellent piece of control in the box from a Scarlett cross saw him set up a volley that was saved by the home goalkeeper. Little else of interest until the end of the first half when Hammatt had two shots blocked in quick succession. His first saved by the goalkeeper and the rebound looking suspiciously like a defenders hand as the referee blew for half time.

The second half saw both sides play better and on 51 minutes Uxbridge took the lead. Moore saw off challenges from two defenders and broke to the bye line with the ball, his low hard cross was then only parried by Andy Carter, straight into the path of Frape who scored what turned out to be the only goal from close in.

Stones then began to create more in a scrappy game, but the final ball into the box was too often wayward, although Bamgbola was unlucky to pick up a lose ball and see his shot pass the goalkeeper and then the post denying Wealdstone a deserved equaliser.

For the last fifteen minutes they were almost encamped in the Uxbridge penalty box, but the home side’s defending in numbers and Wealdstone’s poor finishing was enough to deny them a share of the spoils.

Wealdstone: Andy Carter, Robin Tucker, Tyronne Hercules, Fergus Moore, Kevin Ramsay, Andre Scarlett, Carl Hunt (s78 Richard Horner), Martin Carter, Mick Swaysland, Bryan Hammatt, Danny Tilbury (s31 Olatunji Bamgbola, s78 Matt Perry)
