The first cup match of the season saw Stones ravel to Tilbury for a 2:00 kick off, but it seemed as though a number of the players were still going to start at 3Pm as usual.

Stones were missing Andy Carter, Fergus Moore and Richard McDonnagh and were thrown out of their stride early on by the pace of the Tilbury side, who never let Stones settle on the ball anywhere on the field.

Stones had the first chance however, missing a penalty after five minutes when Hammatt was fouled in the box, and that seemed to lay the pattern of the match.

There was plenty of midfield endeavour but little to really trouble either ‘keeper until Tilbury took the lead on 39 minutes, a long cross deceiving Charlie Leary as he cam to collect under pressure and Burbridge headed home.

Stones though managed to equalise on the half time with the best move on the match, playing the ball out of defence for the first time, Shaw collected wide on the left, he beat his man and fed the ball to Hammatt who cut inside the box and laid a sweet pass into the path of Dennis Greene who scored with a low shot, on a ground where his father played fore the home side in the sixties.

The second half saw Stones start a little brighter and create a number of half chances, Tilbury and Hammatt with the opportunity to give Stones the lead, but as the match wore on Tilbury seemed to settle into defence and were prepared to try and break out all be i unsuccessfully, the final score remaining 1- 1 and the replay scheduled for Monday night.
