Stones depleted squad travelled to high flyers Staines Town this afternoon and came away with the three points after a well deserved 3-1 which could have been five or six!

With a number of players unavailable, Gordon Bartlett had tried to strengthen the squad during the week but two new signings and one potential signing were also unavailable this afternoon, so it was a young side that took the field at Wheatsheaf Park.

what they lacked in experience though, they made up for with effort, hustling the Staines defence into errors adn not letting the midfield settle, and it was Wealdstone that had the better of the early exchanges, both Beckford and Jolly seeing efforts just wide, and Jermaine also had a snap shot blocked by one of his own side with the Staines defence wrongfooted!

He did break the deadlock on 24 minutes though when from a free kick an excellent reverse ball from Richard Jolly freed Jermaine behind the home defence and he made no mistake cutting round Allaway in the home goal to give Stones the lead.

Allaway kept Staines in the match in the first half saving twice from Beckford – one a great save from a penalty after Jolly had been fouled – and one from an excellent Jolly header, preventing Wealdstone from increasing the lead, while Jackson in the Stones goal made one superb stop from Currie – the only clear chance that the home side created in the first half.

The second half saw Staines start brighter but Stones defended well and created chances at the other end but when Currie was booked twice in the space of five minutes for backchatting the Linesman, Stones took advantage and in the 70th minute extended their lead. Jolly again received the ball out wide, beat his man and struck a low cross across the box, where Beckford at the far post made no mistake giving Stones a 2-0 lead.

Allaway again made a couple of outstanding saves to deny Beckford and Jolly again as Stones continued to press. On 85 minutes though the nerves began to show as Dave Ryan cut out a through ball, but could only watch as the ball ran free to Green who beat Jackson from close range to give the home side hope.

Staines pressed forward while Stones got everything and anything behind the ball in the last few minutes, until Phil Turner who had his best game for the club broke forward, received the ball from Jolly and beat Allway in the 93rd minute to make the score 3-1 to Wealdstone.
