Stuffed

Well and truly.

A depleted Wealdstone side, low on confidence did nothing to help their cause in a game against a Slough team on the top of the game, and they were cut apart almost surgically by the rampant home attack.

Stones had the better of the opening minutes but from Slough’s first attack Matt Perry missed his kick clearing and the ball broke for Howard to slot in at the far post and give Slough the lead. Stones battled to get on level terms, but poor finishing and good defending limited the threat although Carl Hun was unlucky to see a shot come back off the post, Carters follow up was pushed out by the home keeper and Hunt’s header was just wide. It was the story of Wealdstone in the last third as Hammatt saw a shot cleared by the keeper’s trailing foot, and Morgan had a shot scrambled away.

It was Slough though whop dominated more and more as the half progressed, their second on 37 minutes coming as Hakki strolled through a stagnant defence to beat Carter from close range and they scored a third when Roach scored just before half time, to give the home side a 3 – 0 lead, when it could easily have been 3 – 3. Saying that, without Andy Carter in the Stones goal, it could have been 6 – 3 as he pulled off three excellent saves late in the half.

Injury saw Horner replaced at half time, but it seemed that the remainder of the Stones had stayed in the dressing room as well, as the rampant home side tore into Stones from the start, Roach scoring a header on 52 minutes and substitute Bartley scoring twice as the half progressed. Stones did improve slightly as the half progressed, but to no avail, ending up on the wrong end of a 6 goal hammering, both senior players and youth players equally to blame in a disjointed, poor performance.

Far better then to remember the Stones fans who finished the game singing their hearts out in support of their well beaten side. Without those supporters there would be no club. Without a change in fortune, they too will start to leave.
