WealdstoneThere’s actually little to be said about this fairly even but poor match played on a pudding of a pitch that suited neither side, except to say that perhaps a draw would have been a fair result.
Stones had made a few changes, Sloma coming into the side and Luke Evans playing after a long injury, but despite a great deal of hustle and bustle there was little either side could show for their efforts until Beckford scored for Wealdstone on 35 minutes.
Josh Cooper who was one of few bright spots on a dull afternoon, broke forward deep into the Slough half and slotted a ball into Beckford’s patch and he beat the keeper with a low shot from 15 yards. Two minutes later, and the duo almost repeated the act, but this time Masters made the save.
Just before half time Slough equalised when a long throw was headed on by Hodges, the flick doing just enough to put the ball out of the grasp of Jackson, and the scores were tied at half time.
Stones started brightly in the second half and Beckford, Cort and Burrell all saw shots saved in the first two minutes before Slough took the lead three minutes in. Turner battled well to win the ball just outside Stones box, but was closed down and with nowhere to go conceded the ball back to Steele, his ball inside to Harris allowed the unmarked forward to shoot from 20 yards past Jackson’s outstretched arm.
Stones though they had equalised on 66 minutes when Cooper picked up a loose ball inside the six yard box after Masters blocked a shot, but he was adjudged offside, though Stones did equalise on 70 when Cort’s loping run brought him to the edge of the box, he cut inside his marker and curled a shot past the home keeper.
Seven minutes later though, Slough scored the winner when sub Mason who had only been on the field 1 minute fended off a couple of weak challenges and broke into the area to score from 12 yards.
Not one of Stones better days.
