Oxford City 0 – 3 Wealdstone
0 - 3
Ten very tired pairs of feet made their way over 70 miles to Oxford along the North and South Oxford canals and they were rewarded (after a pint or two) with a far better performance from Stones, who also preserved the ‘unbeaten’ record in matches following walks.
Stones started well and although both sides created chances, Stones at least saw theirs on target and they took the ;leads on 16 minutes. A free kick from Courtnage was headed goalward by Jolly and with Matt Carvell battling to get a touch, defender Wimble glanced the ball past his own goalkeeper.
Oxford had more of the play for the remainder of the half but didn’t really threaten to equalise until around half time, but Carter collected the ball well as the defence also cleared their lines early and effectively to maintain Stones half time advantage.
The second half saw Stones improve and J0lly and Morgan caused a number of problems for the home defence.
Stones increased their lead on 55 minutes when Jolly found himself unmarked from a Carter corner and he headed in from close range.
Ten minutes later and Stones extended their lead still further as a sweet ball through the home defence from Tilbury allowed Morgan to run on and he shot home under pressure from his marker for 3 – 0.
Stones continued to dominate as Oxford faded still further as the match went on, and Jolly, Morgan, Williams and Myhill could all have increased the margin.
