Marlow 2 – 0 Wealdstone
2 - 0
There is little to say about this match other then Wealdstone simply failed to play.
A bright start saw them force Marlow back, but without forcing a shot and then on four minutes, Gulad Adan waited for a clearance to bounce – which it did, unfortunately over him – which allowed Pritchard to run on and round Andy Carter to shoot home with the home side’s first venture out of their own half.
Stones had a great deal of possession in the middle of the park, but struggled to use the width on a wide pitch and at times struggling to find a team mate to pass too. On 36 minutes, Tommy Williams was caught in two minds with no defender behind him, the ball broke to Shepherd who ran on to the byline and squared the ball for Gibson to increase the lead from close range.
Stones failed to get into their stride and their best effort of the half was a twenty five yard shot from Dave Ryan, tipped over by the home keeper for a corner.
it was the story of the game as Wealdstone forced numerous corners and were awarded a good number of free kicks around the box, but they failed to make the home keeper save anything other than the cross from any of these.
The second half saw Marlow create far more as they grew in confidence, but the only reason the score line didn’t change was Marlow’s incapability rather than good defending.
All in all it was a poor performance all round, with only Jolly and Swaysland able to take any credit for their work rate.
