Maidenhead United 5 – 1 Wealdstone
5 - 1
Not a performance Stones will look back on fondly, but it could have been so different as they were dominant for the first half hour, both Jolly and Beckford unlucky not to score, while the home keeper also made an excellent save from a deflection and another at the feet of James Duncan.
The match changed when Stones already depleted attacking options were reduced still further as Beckford limped off and Dave Ryan came on. within two minutes, Maidenhead had broken forward and Hale had opened the scoring.
Stones never really settled into the changed formation, and without Jermaine’s movement up front options were limited – this allowed the home side to get on top of the game and two goals at the start of the second half effectively killed off the tie.
More changes saw Stones take off Courtnage and Shaw for Tilbury and Julienne but they struggled to get on top of the game, Ryan though managing to scramble the ball home to give Stones some hope.
As the half progressed it was inevitable that Maidenhead would score again as Stones three man defence was stretched by the pace of the home attack, although a final 5-1 score line did flatter the home side a little.

Stones sent crashing out of Trophy,,,,,,
NOBODY truly felt that Wealdstone would win the FA Trophy, but equally no one felt they would lose by such a big margin to anything but a Conference side.
On the play this scoreline flattered Maidenhead enormously. For the first half hour, playing down the pronounced slope, Wealdstone dominated proceedings: Richard Jolly’s far post header was kept out on the goal-line, Maidenhead’s Connor’s sliced attempt at a clearance required a smart catch low-down by keeper Hart, and when Hart dropped a free-kick under pressure Jermaine Beckford put the loose ball wide.
Beckford was in the side due to the suspension of Marvin Morgan and an injury to Ben Alexander. His thigh was strapped from the start and once he started limping midway through the half it was obvious he would have to be replaced.
Danny Tilbury, who has at least played up front on occasion, seemed the obvious choice but the management chose the somewhat negative move of bolstering the midfield with Dave Ryan, unnecessary at that point.
Beckford in his half hour had kept the Maidenhead defence occupied, but as soon as he departed Wealdstone appeared to lose all their shape. With their first serious attack, Maidenhead scored soon after-Hale, unmarked at the far post netting comfortably after a low cross from the right had somehow gone all the way across the box without a touch.
Only a goal down at the turnaround, Wealdstone were not out of it. Alas, a second forward player to support Jolly was still not employed, only the swapping places of Shaw and Duncan.
An unfortunate freak goal six minutes into the second half as good as killed them off-the right wing cross from Sanders sailing over everybody in the box, including Andy Carter, to hit the side netting at the far post.
An exquisite 20 yard chip from ex-Stone Yaku made it three four minutes later, and the same player hit a post on the hour after capitalising on a dozing defence and rounding Carter.
In between, Ryan had reduced the deficit with a crisp shot from the edge of the box that took a deflection.
For a short time it looked as though Stones would make serious fight of it, but Tommy Williams wasted a central free-kick right on the very edge of the area a kick that should have been a penalty as the offence took place a yard inside the box by clearing the bar by some distance.
But time edged away and Stones still suffered, as they had for most of the game, through the lack of support for Jolly.
Yaku scored the fourth five minutes from the end of normal time after an attempted interception of a right-wing cross had deflected and slowed the ball enough for him to chose his spot.
Williams and Maidenhead’s Ashe were dismissed, somewhat harshly, in stoppage time following a skirmish, and the game finished with a tremendous long range strike from Gallen making it five.
Some other views of the game….
MAIDENHEAD United stormed into the fifth round of the FA Trophy with a 5-1 demolition of a plucky Wealdstone team tonight (Tuesday).
After a shaky start United found their feet and when Steve Hale gave them the lead on 30 minutes they never looked back.
Strikes from Steve Sanders and Lawrence Yaku settled the tie by the 55th minute, and although the visitors reduced the deficit, United went on to scoe twice more through Yaku again, and then a thunderbolt from Brendan Gallen.
Both teams finished the match with 10 players when Ryan Ashe and Tommy Williams were given their marching orders for what appeared to be a bout of handbags.
The Magpies now await the result of the Staines v Halifax clash which is due to take place on Tuesday, February 10.
From the Maidenhead FC website.
Aldershot Town and Burton Albion of the Conference, plus Stalybridge Celtic from the UniBond Premier, booked their places in the last 16. So did Maidenhead United of the Ryman Premier, who knocked out Wealdstone in our featured match at a wet and windy York Road. The Stones were Gola League (a former name of the Conference) and FA Trophy “double” winners in 1985. Now, as a Ryman First Division North club that hasn’t had its own ground since 1991, their aspirations are more modest. But last night at Maidenhead they had a great chance to rekindle some former glories by winning a place in the Trophy’s Fifth Round. Stones were so up for it at the start that the referee had to ask them to break up their bonding “huddle”. For the first half-hour of the tie, playing down a considerable slope and with a strong wind behind them, they completely dominated proceedings. With the home side, mid-table in the Ryman Premier, barely able to get out of their own half, corners and free-kicks rained in on ‘keeper Nick Hart without a break. He spilled a couple of efforts, with the ball like the proverbial bar of soap, but Wealdstone simply couldn’t turn their obvious superiority into goals. Then, on 33 minutes, the near impossible happened and Maidenhead took the lead. Mark Boyce sped to the right touchline and pulled the ball back, Stones’ defence stood strangely immobile and Steve Hale had time to pick his spot from about eight yards.
The visitors were shell-shocked and all the confidence they had shown in the opening 30 minutes seemed to ebb away. There was no further score before half-time but the soaring Magpies had made it 3-0 within ten minutes of the restart. Right-back Steve Sanders was within touching distance of a corner flag when he floated in a cross that the swirling wind helped over Hart’s head and Lawrence Yaku coolly chipped in another shortly after.
Then burly Stones substitute Dave Ryan reduced the arrears with the third goal in just seven minutes. Stones’ lone striker Richard Jolly rushed to retrieve the ball from the back of the net but there was to be no fight-back. In the last five minutes of the game Yaku slipped in a cheeky fourth and Brendon Gallen’s blast from 25 yards made it 5-1 and even had the visiting fans applauding. Now Maidenhead, £5,000 better off, travel to the winners of Halifax Town v Staines Town in the Fifth Round. They have Villa Park in their sights.
